Lori Corbet Mann

Founder of The Anxiety Clinic

Hi! I’m Lori, a Holistic Psychotherapist and founder of The Anxiety Clinic.

Passionate about women's wellbeing, I use a science-backed, natural, and holistic approach to help women manage the symptoms of stress and anxiety.

What Would You Like to Know?

Share a fun fact, to break the ice...

I have a secret talent for running backwards. This unique skill baffles my family, as I'm not especially good at running forwards!

What's your background?

I studied Economics, before becoming one of Scotland's top financial consultants. I then moved to Zimbabwe, where I was a pioneer in the offshore investment sector and established and ran one of Africa's leading cross-border investment firms.

Have you ever personally experienced anxiety?

Yes, I have. I was diagnosed with panic disorder while I was a student, was treated, but went on to develop generalised anxiety, social anxiety, depression (which often goes hand-in-hand with anxiety), and PTSD. As a result, life as I had known it quite literally stopped.

How was your anxiety treated?

The usual methods: a very limited course of psychotherapy, and a prescription for a benzodiazepine. Despite having hit rock-bottom with paralyzing depression, my intuition told me that medication was not the right approach for me, so I didn't fill the prescription. Given that I now know the potential for addiction, withdrawal symptoms and debilitating side-effects, I'm grateful I made that choice.

So, you still have anxiety?

No, I don't - I've been anxiety and depression free for decades. I only really realised this during the pandemic lockdowns, when I had no income for several months and didn't get anxious. That was a pretty good barometer.

How did you overcome it?

I stumbled across a mind-body practice which calmed and focused my mind, lifted my mood, and eased the tension in my body. I had no idea at the time how powerful it was! I've used a similar - though swifter-acting, easy to master, and thus, more effective - mind-body practice as the foundation for iMed.

Why the shift to helping other women with anxiety?

Someone close to me was struggling with crippling anxiety. While I had tools to help her, I lacked a real understanding of anxiety itself, and how these tools worked. Determined to bridge the gap, I immersed myself in various fields of study. What I learned not only enriched my understanding, but ignited a passion to help other women facing similar struggles.

What's your professional background for this work?

I've spent almost three decades immersed in the personal and professional study of psychology, mind-body and lifestyle medicine, which has given me a diverse array of qualifications. This broad yet unified field of knowledgehas given me better understanding of the many facets of women's mental health, and creates the foundation of my approach to overcoming anxiety.

How is your approach different?

My approach is rooted in the understanding that true healing requires a holistic perspective, and that anxiety is not a symptom to be suppressed but a message from the body and mind that something is out of balance. I help women restore the balance by providing a comprehensive personalised review, and a tailor-made Lifestyle Medicine treatment plan.

Stress management (iMed) forms the foundation of treatment, because until we learn skills to manage our stress levels, we will struggle to implement a healthy nutritional/ exercise/ sleep/ social regimen.

What's your ultimate goal?

Ultimately, I aim to empower other women to become active participants in their own wellbeing. I want to share the knowledge, tools, skills, and compassionate support they need to manage stress and anxiety, and live a healthy and fulfilling life.
